Why Birth Matters
The Beginning of SB Birth Matters
After a successful, but not-as-hoped-for birth of my first child in the hospital, I knew there had to be so much more to giving birth through the body's natural process and ability to labor and deliver a healthy baby.
Despite extensive research and discussions with my doctor about having a natural birth, I ended up having to endure some interventions. That experience made me determined to learn even more and figure out how to safely and successfully have what I deemed a natural birth (no interventions, no medications). I found my birthing experience was not uncommon and that many women wanting a natural birth nevertheless ended up with unnecessary interventions. Since that first birth, I had four powerful home births and have helped prepare over 3,500 couples for birth, including my own children and their partners.
I believe there is tremendous value in the birth experience itself. I believe the mother's body has been created to give birth and nourish her baby without interventions or medication. Although interventions are sometimes necessary for the safety of the mother and/or baby, most women can give birth with very little intervention. In my experience, I have witnessed mothers benefit from the hormones of natural childbirth and the profound blessing of working through her personal birth story, making educated, intuitive and thoughtful decisions for the wellbeing of herself and her baby. I believe birth matters-- to the mother, the baby, the dad and the family. Birth is a natural process, designed to bless and build healthy families on the strong foundation of love and trust. It can be the most transformational and powerful experience of a woman’s life, an experience that she may draw strength from in the days, weeks and years after her children are born.
